20 more kilometers

3 generations formed by adoption

Left to Right - Amy (Adoptive mom), Secundina Cruz (maternal grandmother), Melinda (Awesome Daughter) in her grandmother's home in a small village in the mountains of Nicaragua (May, 2009)

In 2009 my daughter and I went on a journey to find her birth family in Nicaragua. Finding them could be described as a miracle. Melinda was so overwhelmed by emotion she couldn't speak at first. Her only question for her grandmother "Do you have any pictures of me as a baby?"

It was an incredible journey -the start of filling in some blanks in the first few chapters of her life. I am sharing our story during a lunch and learn at Tame Your Tiger Brain Training in March (click for details). I am hoping this story will help other adoptive parents, adoptees, family members, therapists and others connected to adoption in some way to understand more the desire some adoptees have to find birth family, the emotions this can evoke in adoptive parents and how to prepare for possible outcomes and more. Bring your lunch and we will provide drinks and desserts.

I will explain the title "20 more kilometers" at the lunch and learn - hope to see you there!
